The real reason the iPad has a "Micro SIM" card

Wondering why the iPad takes a SIM card you never heard of? Well turns out its not because its just the latest technology in SIM cards. Quite the contrary, the manufacture for these cards use it for very small phones, where a normal size SIM just wont fit.

If you look at where the micro SIM is being used today, it’s in those devices that have real space constraints, but it’s hard to envision a tablet to have that much of a constraint,

So why does the iPad use it? Simple, because if it used a normal SIM card you could just throw your iPhone SIM card in,and browse the web with the wireless 3G plan you are already paying for. Apple and AT&T, of cource, prefer you pay for wireless 3G on both devices.

Turns out you can, however, cut your SIM card down to size if your skilled enough, and it will actually work in the micro SIM slot in the iPad believe it or not, however you'll need an adapter to get it to fit back in your iPhone.

PC Mag has a good article on it here
